Tips for a Successful Family Reunion
Preparing a family reunion is a challenging task. However, making the event an astounding success is a different thing. It is more challenging.
The foundation of a successful preparation is the goal. After all, the goal will drive you towards a precise and calculated direction. In creating your goal, it should be backed up by proper planning. If your plan is a successful reunion, you should have the edge. There should be something different about the reunion that you hosted.
This said, what could you possibly do in order to create a difference the in the family reunion you are hosting?
Trace family history. Since the event is about family reunion, trace back the family history. Induce excitement on your attendees. You may want to include this in your preparation. It is advised that you get some one who will assist you exclusively on this task.
Since you will be tracing the family history, this could take a lot of time. You will be doing a lot of research. Once you gather all information needed, present the family tree on the reunion. This will surely get the interest of each members of the family.
Create a theme. The most remembered family reunions are the ones with a theme. For instance: Make “Importance of my family” as the theme for this reunion. This is timely since the event is a family reunion. Each member will mention an instance where he or she realized how important her family is. It can be video taped so that it can be watched after the event. The video will form part of the family record after the event.
Find missing members of the clan. Locate the members of the family who is not anymore visible in the circle for years. In fact, it is great if you could make a “missing in action” family member appear in the reunion.
Take Pictures. Make sure some one is taking pictures. You can also video record the event. The group activities should be recorded as well. Encourage the attendees to say something about themselves and the family reunion on the video. After the event, the video will form as the permanent record of the clan.
Send a thank you note. After the event, make sure to send a thank you note. This will be appreciated by the attendees.
Create a newsletter after the event. It should contain different stories from each member of the family circle. It should also have pictures taken during the event. Feature the family tree on the news letter. Make a lot of copies. Then send it to the attendees. This could make them more excited. Further, it could make them re-live the event.
